Harp ensemble to play for Obama

Youngsters have date to play at castle next summer

An American harp ensemble who will be playing at Cardigan Castle next summer have been invited to play before President Barack Obama at one of the last public events of his presidency.

The American Youth Harp Ensemble will be taking part in a week-long harp school at the castle hosted by former royal harpist Claire Jones next August.

There are plans for the youngsters to perform a harp concert on the castle lawn at the end of the harp school. The harpists and their families will be staying in the castle accommodation.
The ensemble’s artistic director Lynnelle Ediger, who visited the castle with Claire last month, said her musicians had been invited to perform at the White House for the Obamas’ last Christmas celebration.

“We are very honoured and excited,” said Lynnelle.
And she added: “We are so looking forward to coming to the castle and the upcoming tour next August.”
