Seven great reasons to visit Cardigan Castle this Winter

  1. Walk the Castle grounds to take in some fresh air.

Cardigan Castle’s two-acre site is the perfect place to feel as though your out in the country whilst being in the heart of Cardigan itself, explore the vegetable garden, walk the castle walls and see the regency lawn and planting beds.

  1. Seasonal History

The first Eisteddfod was held on Christmas day 1176. This time of year is perfect to get a true sense of the atmosphere of Cardigan Castle and to get a sense of what it must have been like 842 years ago.

  1. The Black Chair exhibition.

Our exhibition of Hedd Wyn’s Black Chair, recreated using modern techniques is on loan to us from the National Museum of Wales. The exhibition is due to return early in the new year so an opportunity to see this incredible masterpiece is not to be missed.

  1. The Wynne Melville Jones Gallery

Our temporary exhibition of Wynne Mel’s work includes striking landscapes and scenes from mid and west Wales. Only here until early in the new year.

  1. Grab a Bargain in the Castle shop

At this time of year, we all love a bargain. The castle shop now has stock items of Barbour accessories and other merchandise reduced by 20%. See local crafts, books and something for young historians!

  1. Scrumptious seasonal food.

Our on-site restaurant 1176 serves a selection of seasonal dishes sure to delight. Try food made using produce from the Castle’s kitchen Garden and other fantastic local produce.

  1. Value for money.

Our admissions tickets are now valid for a full Calendar year. During 2019 we will keep bringing loan exhibitions from partners, a rotating art gallery and the grounds are always worth a regular visit to see the incredible contrasts between seasons. Now is a great time to get your key to Cardigan Castle in 2019.
