Sword of Peace unveiled at Cardigan Castle

Three voices have come together to create a unique piece of artwork at Cardigan Castle.

Caerwedros-based sculptor Ben Dearnley has created a stunning 4ft high slate sculpture with lines of poetry taken from specially commissioned poems by chaired bard Ceri Wyn Jones and former National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke.

The Sword of Peace (Cleddyf Heddwch) sculpture, funded by the Ashley Family Foundation, was inspired by the phrase ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’.

Ben, who had the idea for the sculpture during the restoration process at the castle, said: “Three voices are heard in this sculpture, all of us inspired by Cardigan Castle, this special place and this special location.”

Cadwgan Trust chair Non Davies said that the sculpture was a 21st addition to nine centuries of history at the castle.
