Have an ‘Appy’ Christmas!

Cardigan Castle has the perfect present for visitors this Christmas.

The castle will be launching its free mobile app on Saturday December 10 – the first day of its weekend-long Christmas fair.

The app, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, gives mobile users nine hundred years of history at the swipe of a screen.

It includes interactive tours and maps, audio and video, amazing restoration photos, stunning 360 degree panoramas for history fans plus a magical treasure hunt and games and activities for the kids.

The bilingual app has been developed by Locly who are working on a Ceredigion app at the moment and have also carried out similar projects for Cadw and the National Eisteddfod.

Visitors will be able to download the app on the App Store and Google Play. As you walk round the castle site you will also get notifications delivered straight to your mobile thanks to the latest i-beacon technology.

Castle facilities officer Sue Lewis said: “Cardigan Castle is one of the first tourist attractions in Ceredigion to use this latest technology. It’s an exciting development for the castle and shows that even though it is 900 years old it still keeps up with the latest trends!”

The Christmas Fair, part of Cardigan’s Festive Fortnight, is being held on Saturday December 10 and Sunday December 11 from 11am to 3pm with over 40 stalls, Sion Corn, live music and festive food. Entry to the castle over the weekend is free.
