Link with the past
The last living link with the glory days of Castle Green House in Cardigan returned this week for a visit.
Keith Spickett, the grandson of Alderman John Evans who lived in Castle Green during the 1920s and 30s, spent many happy childhood summer holidays at his grandparents home.
Mr Spickett, aged 83, who lives in Kent, returned to Cardigan Castle in the wake of Cadwgan Trust’s successful £11m funding bid for the site.
“It is absolutely marvellous news,” he said.
Mr Spickett last visited the castle during the BBC Restoration programme in 2003. He vividly remembers the house, gardens and domestic staff and spent two hours recording his memories with Cadwgan trustees. His recollections will be used for interpretation of the site.
He has also vowed to return to Cardigan every year to monitor progress. “I very much hope to be here when it is all restored and open to the public,” he said.
