Charities Receive £3000 from Preseli Bluestone Challenge

The first Preseli Bluestone Challenge run held in July exceeded the expectations of the organising Rotary Clubs and Ingli Runners, in yielding £3000 for the named charities.

At a reception at Fishguard Bay Hotel on September 16, cheques were presented to Phil Thomas for Ty Hafan, Michael Ashbridge for Welsh Air Ambulance , Jann Tucker for Cadwgan and Stephen Hill for Haverfordwest Rotary Club charities.

Introducing the presentations, Richard Goswell from Fishguard and Goodwick Rotary Club, paid tribute to the sponsors and helpers :

“The success of this new event was only possible by a generous start-up grant from Chevron, and support from sponsors Princess Gate, Summerdale Coaches , Pathfinders, Qinetiq, Tri-exercise, Celtic Divers, Coast and Country Cottages, and Preseli Rural Transport. We received vital help on the day from a team from the 14th Signals Regiment, who provided expert marshalling and communications, supported by the Sea Cadets and Air Training Corps. Crymych Leisure Centre, St Johns Ambulance and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park also supplied essential facilities and services.

“We are delighted that representatives from several of these organisations have been able to join us today to see the fruits of their contributions. We also welcome some of the participants who raised large sums in personal sponsorship.”

Representatives of the charities spoke of the boost that such donations give to their work. They emphasised their appreciation of clear support from local communities which in turn helps them to raise funds from other sources.

The Preseli Bluestone Challenge, which combined a fun walk with a fell race, was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Fishguard and Goodwick, Cardigan and Haverfordwest in association with the Ingli Runners. The Rotary Clubs aim to build on the success of the Preseli Bluestone Challenge with another fun event for charity in July 2010.
