£4.5m Heritage Lottery bid finally delivered

The £4.5m Heritage Lottery bid for Cardigan Castle has finally been delivered.

The huge box of documents was personally handed into the HLF offices in Cardiff by Cadwgan Trust chairman Jann Tucker.

The bid – which has been five years in the making – could see the transformation of Cardigan Castle into one of the top cultural tourist sites in Wales.

“It was a very exciting day for us,” said Mrs Tucker.

“These documents represent thousands of hours of work by trustees, Ceredigion County Council and our team of consultants. We are confident that it is the best chance that Cardigan Castle will ever have.”

She added that Cadwgan were grateful for all the help and support shown by the local community.

She paid special tribute to AM Elin Jones who has been working with the Trust to secure European funding.

The result of the bid will be known in March next year. Other matchfunding bids for the total cost of the £9m scheme are already in the process of being prepared.
Cadwgan will now concentrate on launching a fundraising appeal for the castle site as part of their match funding efforts.

Christmas fundraising events will be held at the Green Street Cottages this month. This Saturday (December 11) between 2-4pm there will be a children’s day with Father Christmas and the following week (December18) will see a musical afternoon with mince pies.
