Welcome to Cadwgan Building Preservation Trust
Cadwgan Building Preservation Trust, a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity, is working very hard to save Cardigan Castle and associated buildings on its 2 acre site.
2010 is a key year for the future of the Castle, which is the birthplace of the Eisteddfod, and all forms of support are greatly welcomed. How you can help us
So far we have carried out an options appraisal and have successfully secured a Round 1 funding pass of £295,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). This money assists the detailed development and planning costs, totalling some £500k.

The Trust now has the very short period until September 2010 to submit the Round 2 bid. This will determine whether or not funding for the whole project is secured. The Round 2 costs are estimated in the region of £9.2 million of which £4.5 will be sought from HLF.
The remainder has to be raised by match funding. Success at HLF Round 1 means that we have accepted the challenge to achieve success at Round 2 by securing the promise of the match funding required. The massive task of raising this match funding now faces the Trust. This will be sought from a range of funders such as WEFO, Cadw, WAG Match Funding, DE&T (WAG), The Architectural Heritage Fund, Trusts and Charities. In addition, Community Councils and Town Councils from Cardigan to Carmarthen and into Pembrokeshire are being approached for local funding support. Matching the HLF’s £4.5 million cannot be achieved without the support of local communities and potential funders.

The Trust’s development work to date includes contracting a Project Officer and employing a full time Administration Officer. A fully equipped office has been established at the Green Street Cottages at the main access to the castle site. Various specialist consultants have been procured and this is an ongoing process.

The Trust is currently planning a public Exhibition Week 14-22 August 2010 which will give members of the local community and visitors an opportunity to view proposals for the site and gardens.
The future of the castle depends on a successful HLF Round 2 bid.
